Empowering Latinos Through Information

My Story

Growing up in Michoacán, Mexico, I experienced a childhood rich in culture, family values, and community. When I was 15 years old, my life took a dramatic turn as my mother made the courageous decision to bring me and my three younger sisters to the United States in search of better opportunities.

Arriving in the US without documentation or resources, I faced the challenging reality that many immigrants know too well—the struggle to adapt, survive, and find my place in a new country. While working at a factory to help support my family, I was offered a position at a local radio station that would change the trajectory of my life.

One night, while feeling lost and uncertain about my future, I received a call from a pregnant listener in an abusive relationship who saw me as her only lifeline. At just 15 years old, with my own world in disarray, I realized the profound responsibility and power that came with having a platform. This pivotal moment awakened me to my calling—using information to empower others.

This realization transformed me from feeling like a victim of circumstances to becoming an agent of change. I pursued journalism with passion and purpose, dedicating myself to providing accurate information that could help others make better decisions and improve their lives.

My journey took me from those late-night radio shows to becoming Chicago’s first solo female news anchor, covering national elections, interviewing presidents and political leaders, and, ultimately, hosting my own political show in Washington, DC. Along the way, I’ve been honored with multiple Emmy Awards and had the privilege of being a TEDx speaker twice.

But beyond the accolades, what drives me is the same purpose I discovered that night on the radio—the power of information to transform lives. Today, I’m committed to helping others, especially Latino immigrants, navigate their own journeys with greater awareness, confidence, and success.

Professional Journey

While pursuing studies at DePaul University and Wright College, Tsi-tsi-ki began her broadcasting career at just 15 years old, reading traffic reports on radio. These early experiences taught her the fundamentals of clear communication and the importance of reliable information in people’s daily lives.

Tsi-tsi-ki’s career in television began at Telemundo Chicago, where she started as a fill-in reporter before becoming the station’s weather anchor and eventually its first solo female news anchor. She led coverage of historic events including the 2008 presidential election and conducted extensive interviews with political and civic leaders to highlight issues affecting Latino communities.

Later, she became a national news anchor for Univision, occasionally filling in for Jorge Ramos, one of the most respected journalists in Spanish-language media. This opportunity allowed her to bring important national and international stories to millions of viewers across the country.

For ten years, she hosted “Política Ya,” a political show based in Washington, DC, where she moderated debates and conducted in-depth interviews with political figures from across the globe. This experience gave her unique insights into the political process and the importance of presenting multiple perspectives.

Today, Tsi-tsi-ki is focused on sharing the knowledge and insights she’s gained throughout her career to empower others, particularly Latino immigrants. Through speaking engagements, workshops, coaching, and her forthcoming book, she is committed to helping people access the information and tools they need to succeed in all aspects of life—from professional advancement to personal fulfillment.
